ABOUT THE WORKSHOP

The Elementary School Math Workshop will explore the core components of math instruction at Success Academy, including both content and the pre-teaching prep that powers each lesson. The program is a great fit for principals, network and district administrators, and teacher leaders focused on helping budding mathematicians build the confidence and skill to solve any math problem that comes their way.


Attending in groups of two or more is highly recommended (the program includes time to craft strategies specific to your home schools). Please note: If you attended our 2019 Elementary School Math Workshop, you can expect a similar program (repeat attenders absolutely welcome!). Bonus for educators with CTLE requirements: this workshop will count toward your hours!


This workshop is open to people who work in school districts, charter networks, or education nonprofits.

MEET YOUR FACILITATORS

Stacey Gershkovich

MANAGING DIRECTOR OF SHARING


Stacey started her education career as a first grade teacher at PS 138 in the Bronx. She joined Success in 2006, as the founding science teacher at our very first elementary school. Stacey would go on to serve as founding principal of Success Academy Harlem 5, before joining the network team to oversee mathematics, science, and scholar talent as Managing Director of STEM. She then served as Managing Director of Schools, where she coached and supported leaders at a portfolio of SA schools. Stacey received her undergraduate degree from Emory University, her Master's in Education from Pace University, and is currently pursuing a PhD in Teaching and Learning with a focus in Mathematics Education at NYU.

Jessica sie

DIRECTOR OF LITERACY AND HISTORY


Jessica Sie leads the Literacy and History program at Success Academies as Director of Literacy and History. Jessica graduated from the University of Colorado Denver with a Master of Arts in Literacy, Language, and Culturally Responsive teaching. Prior to joining Success Academies she taught second and third grade for six years at a district school in Denver, Colorado. Jessica joined Success Academies in 2011 as a second grade Lead Teacher at SA Bronx 1. In 2012, Jessica was a third grade Lead Teacher on the SA Bronx 1 third grade team. Jessica moved to the Success Academies network team in 2013 as a Literacy Leadership Resident. Over the past four years, Jessica has developed Common Core Standards-aligned curriculum units and developed and presented professional development sessions for teachers and leaders.

Jenny Cloncs

Director of Literacy


Jenny has more than a decade of teaching experience, and more than seven years of experience in leadership roles at Success Academy Harlem 3 and 4. As the Associate Director of Literacy, Jenny leverages her experience as a classroom teacher and school leader to develop curriculum, and manage the implementation of literacy instruction network-wide. Jenny graduated with a degree in Elementary Education from Ball State University.

Lori Ayanian

Labsite Teacher | Success Academy

Lori Ayanian is a Third Grade Labsite Teacher at Success Academy Washington Heights and is now in her fifth year of teaching. She began her teaching career at SA Harlem 2, where she taught first and second grade. As a Labsite Teacher, Lori leads new teacher training over the summer and continues to develop teachers throughout the year. Lori graduated from Colby College with a double major in Economics and Psychology, and from Touro College with a Masters in General and Special Education Grades 1-6 while teaching at SA. In elementary school Lori’s love for poetry was inspired by Shel Silverstein, whose books she adored, and Pablo Neruda, whose homes she visited in Chile. In her free time, she enjoys traveling, reading, and running.

Eunice Kim

Grade Team Lead | Success Academy

Eunice Kim is a Third Grade Teacher and Grade Team Lead at Success Academy Washington Heights and is now in her fourth year of teaching. She began her career at SA as a Schooling Management Intern at the Network office. As Grade Team Lead, Eunice supports fellow third grade teachers by facilitating planning meetings as well as sharing resources and best practices throughout the year. Eunice graduated from Binghamton University with a dual degree in Human Development and Spanish Language/Literature, and from Touro College with a Masters in General and Special Education Grades 1-6 while teaching at SA. In 2018, Eunice received Success Academy's Excellence Award. In her free time, she enjoys painting, traveling, and playing tennis.
